The Story

The Stampeders had a chance to do something they haven’t done in a long time, and that was win six in a row. The last time the Stampeders did that was in October of 2019, and prior to that it was during the 2018-19 season.

Layton Veitch opened the scoring on a deflection at 15:54 of the first period.

Warren Marcotte received a great pass from Trey Sauder who made no mistake, going glove side with a wicked wrist shot, 58 seconds into the second period.

The third period was all Swan, sending 20 shots on net but they couldn’t solve the Oil Capitals goaltender, Eric Reid. 60 minutes solved nothing and for the second straight game, the Stampeders were off to overtime.

Jakob Jones played hero yet again for his team Friday night. The 19-year-old was able to find open ice, cut to the net, and tucked home his 17th of the year with 10.8 seconds to go in the extra frame.

Stampeders – 38

Virden – 21
