Stamps Score Three Goals In The Third, Win 4-3 In A Shootout Against Virden

Swan Valley erased a three goal deficit to win 4-3 in a shootout Saturday night in Virden.

The Stampeders dug deep on the road, scoring three goals in the third period to force overtime and then a shootout.

Michael Davis Stopped 40/43 shots he faced, Nathan Carl and Josh Maucieri had one goal and one assist each, and the Stampeders found their way back into the win column.

Virden would strike first in tonight’s contest as Andrew Hunter would pot his third of the year 11:19 into the opening frame. Swan Valley would send 14 shots on the Oil Caps goaltender, but Riley Wallace was up to the task and he stopped everything sent his way.

Both teams got into penalty trouble in the middle frame, which slowed the pace of the game. Virden capitalized twice in the second period, scoring both of their goals using speed to beat the Stampeders defenders. Nolan Dawson was sent in all alone at 8:33 beating Michael Davis for his third of the year, and Dylan Halliday would score just over seven and a half minutes later and Virden lead 3-0 after forty minutes of play.

Frazer Dodd (Josh Maucieri, Nathan Carl) started the comeback poking home his 6th of the year 3:12 into the third. Josh Maucieri (Tommy Cardinal) would pop the water bottle as he wired one past Riley Wallace on the power play at 15:43. Nathan Carl picked up his 8th of the year, tying the game with a minute twenty remaining in the third period, forcing overtime.

After a wild sixty minutes of hockey tonight at Tundra Oil and Gas Place, the fans were treated to five minutes of 3-on-3 overtime, which solved nothing, and then a shootout.
