The Swan Valley Stampeders returned to action Friday, February 15 in front of a sold out crowd in Swan River. The Stampeders defeated the Portage Terriers by a score of 4-2 to extend the win streak to seven games.
Ile des Chenes, MB product Brad Goethals lead the way tonight with one goal and three assists, while Merek Pipes stopped 40/42 to lead the Stampeders to a 4-2 win on home ice.
The opening frame was very spirited between the two teams, as 49 penalty minutes were handed out in the first 20 minutes of play. Portage eventually opened the scoring on the power play as Ty Barnstable beat Merek Pipes at 8:14 of the first. Portage added to their lead at 10:58 as Joey Moffatt picked up his 21st of the year on the power play. Swan Valley found a way to answer back as Bradly Goethals swatted in his 30th of the year at 17:26. Roblin, MB product turned on the jets, beat out a Portage defensemen and roofed his seventeenth of the year at 19:25 to tie the game at 2. Shots after the first period were 19-8 in favour of Portage.
After a wild first period, both teams calmed down and the flow returned to the game. The speed of Swan Valley allowed them to gain the lead as Matt Osadick picked up a loose puck and snapped home his 23rd of the year at 13:29. After 40 minutes of play the Stampeders lead 3-2 and the shots were 29-23 for Portage.
Campbell Balk added an empty net goal at 19:55 of the 3rd period, and the Stampeders went on to defeat the first place Portage Terriers 4-2. Final shots on goal 42-28 for Portage.
The win moves the Stamps to 36-10-3-2 on the season, and extends their win streak to seven games.
