The Stampeders Return to the Win Column, Beat the Blues 4-3 in a Shootout Saturday Night

The Swan Valley Stampeders returned to the win column Saturday night in Winnipeg, defeating the Blues 4-3 in a shootout.

The Stampeder offence was led by Hayden Pimm (1G), Myles Mason (1G) and Warren Marcotte (1G, 1A), while Loic Mainguy-Crepault stopped 40/43 shots he faced in the win.

The Stampeders had a much better start to the contest tonight at the RINK Training Centre, but found themselves trailing after twenty minutes of play. Brandt Young was awarded his first of the year, after a mad scramble in front of the net at 16:54 of the first period.

A wild second period started off with Pimm collecting his first ever MJHL goal, deflecting a Marcotte point shot at 1:34. Thomas Kaufield answered back for the Blues, snapping home his sixth of the year less than two minutes later. Mason was at the right place at the right time, swatting home a rebound off the back boards at 11:28. Luke Janus regained the Blues lead, scoring his eighth of the year six minutes later and Winnipeg held a 3-2 lead heading into the third period.

Marcotte sent a shot on net that hit something and bounced past Jackson McLeod at 6:43, tying the game 3-3 and that would force overtime.

Both teams tried everything they could in the overtime frame but couldn’t solve either goaltender, sending this one to a shootout.
