Stampeders get set for two-game home set
The Stampeders will return home to begin a two-game home set this coming weekend, as they welcome the Winnipeg Monarchs on Friday, Oct. 17 and Portage Terriers on Saturday, Oct. 18.
The Stamps were able to get a huge 4-3 OT win over the Winnipeg Blues last Saturday, which saw Riley Fequet score twice in the win. The team now sits with a 2-8-0-0 record which is two points behind the Neepawa Titans for fourth in the MGEU West Division.
The Winnipeg Monarchs have struggled this season, but have played some good hockey as of late, with their most recent game being a 3-2 loss to their cross town rivals in the Blues. They’re only win comes over the defending MJHL Champs Northern Manitoba Blizzard, who they beat 3-1. Friday night will also mark the return of former Stampeder Carson Legault. That game will also be the first ever Multicultural Night, celebrating the various cultures in the Swan Valley.
Saturday night will see the Stampeders welcome the Portage Terriers to town, who have been red hot to start the season. Their only loss in regulation has been to the Neepawa Titans earlier in the season by a score of 5-3. They currently sit third in the MGEU East Division with a 6-1-1-0 record. Goaltender Ryan Velan has arguably been the best goalie in the MJHL, sporting a 5-0 record, .973 save percentage, and a 0.79 goals against average which leads all goaltenders. He’s been a great relief goaltender in lieu of former goalie Mitchell Kathler who is now in the BCHL.
Fans you’ve awaited for this returning forward to come back for a long time, make sure to keep track of social media during the week to get some hints to who we’re talking about.
Friday’s Multicultural Night will be a 7 pm start time with some opening ceremonies, make sure to come early and check out some of the culture booths that will open at 6 pm. Saturday’s game starts also at 7 pm.
